Accounts Assistant

A new position for an Accounts Assistant is available working for this well established, niche forwarding agent within the finance department reporting directly to the Company Accountant. Due to the size of the Company the Accounts department performs a number of non-operational functions. Therefore, the individual would need to have wide range of accounting ability and excellent admin skills. Previous experience working for a Freight Forwarding Agent is essential.

The role is varied and would suit someone who enjoys variety and can cope with jumping from one discipline to another.

The accounts office is also responsible for the Health Safety and Environmental system that is operated. These are both to ISO standards and are audited twice a year, the individual would be called upon to assist in some aspects of the administration of these systems when necessary, current responsibility also includes ordering stationery and mobile phone contracts.

The accounting aspects are:

  • Match all purchase invoices to accruals in the operational system and transfer to Sage Line 50.
  • Reconcile supplier statements to Sage and create payments.
  • Transfer sales data from operational system to Sage and review for correctness.
  • Maintain Sales Ledger, posting receipts, issuing statements via email and performing the credit control function.
  • Liaise with operational staff when copy docs are required.
  • Complete daily banking, if any and post to cash books.
  • Operate cash books, GBP, Dollar and Euro, perform bank reconciliations and post to General ledger.
  • Operate Petty cash and analyse input to General ledger.
  • At quarter end assist in the production of the managements accounts by reconciling excel spreadsheets to the operational system to produce accruals listings. In addition, produce excel spreadsheets that list certain cost elements.

I.T. Skills required.

Word (Basic use), Excel (intermediate – Look up function), Outlook, Sage Line 50.  For information, the Operational system is FM3, a Platform written by Sigma Freight Systems.

The individual

The individual needs to be of a flexible nature, highly organised, a forward thinker, able to switch mindset and task at the drop of a hat. Would suit an individual who has worked in an SME and had a hand in many areas, not just the accounting areas. No accounting qualifications are necessary, but good understanding of basic accounting principles is a must and basic VAT knowledge.

The individual needs to be balanced in nature, good humoured, with a positive outlook who enjoys putting in effort and gaining satisfaction from achieving results. Would suit someone who is looking for a long-term role in a great environment.

Terms of Employment

  • Hours: Mon – Friday 9-5.30
  • Salary: Dependent upon individuals experience and qualifications. Range of £25-29k
  • Health cover after completion of probation. Auto enrolment pension scheme administered by Legal and general.  Twenty-five days holiday per annum in addition to bank holidays.
  • Nice working environment.
  • Must be a clear English speaker with good verbal & written communication skills.
  • Must have own transport for the commute to Colnbrook as public transport is poorly serviced
